Our Primary Missions

Conservation

LNCP leads weekly trash cleanups across various parks, helping restore the natural environment. To date, we have restored over 200 acres; by November, we will have expanded this to 700+ acres. Our work includes routine cleanups and larger-scale restoration projects such as the 200+ Acre Meadow Restoration Project at Claude Moore Park In total (as of Sep 2024), LNCP has organized 5+ cleanups with 60 active members gathering over 120 volunteer hours in collaboration with nine local parks and schools. We have been recognized in local newspapers, where we’ve been featured for raising awareness and building a volunteer-driven movement to maintain and protect our local parks.

Research and Education

LNCP combines educational outreach with scientific research to deepen the community’s understanding of environmental health. We create and distribute content on park etiquette, conservation practices, and the dangers of invasive species. Our educational materials are shared through social media, school presentations, and ambassador programs, with outreach engaging over 5,000+ community members. In addition to educational initiatives, LNCP conducts independent environmental research. Recently, we led a 3-site, 3-week study, collecting 500+ data points to analyze water quality and pollution across rivers, ponds, and streams. We identified key factors affecting local water health and ecosystem responses during the fall season by comparing different ecosystems. Our study measured variables such as water clarity, pH levels, and pollutant presence, and findings will be published in a student research journal, contributing to a deeper understanding of the risks posed by common pollutants in local waterways. Through this research, LNCP educates the community on critical environmental issues and advocates for evidence-based conservation practices. Our combination of education and research ensures that students and community members are equipped with knowledge and practical skills in environmental conservation.

Community Service and Liaison

LNCP bridges the gap between schools and parks by acting as a liaison to create internships, volunteer opportunities, and jobs. Our organization connects students with hands-on experience in conservation, ensuring they are informed and actively involved in preserving Loudoun’s natural spaces. As part of this initiative, LNCP has partnered with nine parks and schools to provide sustainable programs that engage youth in local conservation efforts. We work alongside other environmental organizations to address regional climate change challenge.

From the founders

OUR HISTORY

New beginnings

Founded in the backyard of Potomac Falls, The Loudoun Nature Conservation Project was founded in April by Ryan Nisay, Christian Shire, and Carter Lepuil. Inspired by a shared passion for environmental conservation and a desire to make a positive impact in their community, the founders came together to create an organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the natural beauty of Loudoun County, Virginia.

Through hands-on conservation efforts, educational outreach programs, and community engagement initiatives, we strive to empower individuals of all ages to become stewards of the environment. Together, we are fostering a deeper connection with nature and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come. Join us in our mission to protect and cherish the natural environment of Potomac Falls and beyond.
